John joined 25th Feb 1918. His division was a tough New York City division with 23,000 men, known as the liberty division after the emblem of the status of Liberty worn on their sleeves. They called themselves the Metropolitan division.  John participated in the battle of Baccarat, the hell hole of Vasle, the battles of Oise-Aisne (Jun)  and Fismes (Aug), but was slightly injured and left the western front line during Augurst 1918. Two months later in October the same battelion was stuck behind eneny lines and was known as the Lost Battalion.
 John was discharged 9th May 1919.
 In 1920 and 1930 census was a chauffeur.
 In 1930 census living at 60 Oakland Place, Bronx.
 In 1940 census living at 1451 Taylor Avenue, Bronx. He was a truck operator.
 In 1942 worked for the Pittsburgh Plate and Glass Company.
 Claimed Social Secuirty 27th Mar 1958.
 
 John married Ethel Anderson, daughter of Carl Axel Anderson and Mamie Henrietta Eckhoff, 6th Jun 1922 in Manhattan, New York, NY. (Ethel Anderson was born on 24 Apr 1899 in New York, New York, USA, died in 1987 in Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA and was buried in Calvary, Long Island, New York, USA.)
