Methodist minister, Doctor of Divinity. Principal of Queens College, Birmingham, and Anglican/Methodist Theological College. A writer of religious books. Won a scholarship to Crewe County Secondary School. Rejected for war service on medical grounds. He had rheimatic fever as a child. He worked at the assistance board.
In 1940 he was accepted for the Methodist Ministry. In 1944 he was put in charge of a church and mission hall at Edgeware. In 1946 he went to Wesley House, Cambridge and then on to Woodstock, Oxfordshire followed by Stockport, Gosforth, Bristol and a spell as editor of Methodist Connexional. He was then head of Mancheser and Stockport Methodist District Administration and head of Queens College from 1979 to 1987. After 1987 he moved to Litchfield and spent a year as chaplain of Westminster College, Oxford.
