In 1778 Mary Dimes, widiw, took out an insurance policy for £100 with Sun Fire Insurance on the household goods in the brick building where she lived in Brownlow Street. She also have cover of £80 for her wearing apparel and £20 for her plate. Maryy dies in 1788, still living in the house in Brownlow Street in the parish of St. Giles. ( There is still a Brownlow Street off High Holborn) She left a will giving her treasured goods to various friends. She gave £50 to William Dimes of Vauxhall. To his wife, Elizabeth she gave her silk brown brocaded gown, her sable tippet and two aprons. To William's daughter Ann, she gave her large mahogany tea board, her best tea chine complete, her tea jar with the silver top and her case of silver teaspoons. Mary married William Dimes, son of Thomas Dymes and Ann Knobee, on 8 Apr 1741 in St. Clement Dane, Strand, London. (William Dimes was born on 8 Oct 1713 and died before 1778.) |
